If you think of a traditional Christmas, it won’t be long before Charles Dickens comes to mind. A Christmas Carol, his all-time classic tale of yuletide redemption provided many of the building blocks of what we still see as a traditional Christmas, and many versions of it have been created over the years, for stage, screen and of course audiobooks!
Less well known is that Dickens wrote other Christmas themed stories, and here, in this single festive volume, Raconteurs has collected not only a superbly narrated version of A Christmas Carol, but also eight additional festive tales. Together, they showcase both Dickens’ brilliance as a storyteller, and also his social conscience, with themes that are as relevant now as they were in the Victorian era in which they were written.
In our rendition of A Christmas Carol, each “stave” is enhanced by specially arranged traditional music, and read by a different narrator to draw out the different character of each part of the unfolding tale. The other stories – less familiar, but no less delightful – are beautifully told by seven of the best audiobook narrators in the UK. Together, they make the perfect Christmas gift, and an ideal accompaniment to a traditional Christmas.
